Shopping guide

Online shopping in Bangladesh: the complete guide for 2026

Shopping online in Bangladesh is easy to start and easy to get wrong. This guide covers the whole process from the first search to the parcel at the door: where things are sold, how payment actually works, how to judge a store you have never used, and how to get clothing that fits the first time. It is written by the team at Menlab Clothing, so the clothing sections draw on what we see across our own orders.

What Bangladesh buys online

Electronics is the largest category by revenue on ECDB's estimate, and fashion is close behind with apparel making up over half of fashion sales [2]. Grocery grew fast during the pandemic and stayed. Cosmetics, books and home goods round out the list. Fashion is the category with the most independent brands, because a garment is light, photographs well and ships anywhere. Daraz alone reports 8 million monthly active users and delivers to all 64 districts [3].

How cash on delivery works

Most online purchases in Bangladesh are paid in cash when the courier arrives; PCMI estimates about three quarters of volume [1]. You order with a name, phone number and address, the seller confirms, a courier delivers, and you pay the rider. Many stores show the delivery charge before you confirm; Menlab shows it as soon as you pick your division. Our cash on delivery guide covers the details, including why some sellers ask for the charge in advance.

How to identify a trustworthy store

Before a first order from any store, check for real photos of real stock, a physical address, named people, cash on delivery, a written return policy, order tracking and reachable support with hours. The full checklist has twelve checks and the warning signs that mean walk away.

05

How to check clothing quality before you buy

  • Fabric weight. For t-shirts, GSM (grams per square metre) tells you how substantial the fabric is. Around 180 is light and everyday; 220 to 250 is heavyweight and holds its shape. Neither is "better"; they suit different uses. See 250 GSM vs 180 GSM t-shirts.
  • Fabric composition. 100% cotton breathes; a small elastane blend adds stretch; polyester blends resist wrinkles but hold heat. In this climate, cotton or cotton-rich wins for daily wear.
  • Real photos. Consistent lighting, the same background, close-ups of stitching and collar. A store that shows the seams is a store that is proud of them.
  • Reviews with detail. Size bought, how it fit, how it washed. Generic praise says nothing.
  • A written exchange policy. Quality claims mean little without a way to act if they are wrong.
06

How to choose your size online

Size letters mean different things at different brands, so ignore the letter and read the chart. Measure a t-shirt you already like across the chest (armpit to armpit) and top to bottom, then match those numbers to the product's own chart. Know whether the product is a regular fit, which runs close, or an oversized fit, which is meant to sit loose. Our size guide walks through it, and the Menlab assistant will suggest a size from your height and weight.

07

How returns and exchanges work

A good store states a window in days from delivery, the condition required, who pays return delivery and how to start. Menlab gives 7 days from delivery for unworn items with tags on, with courier pickup, and a size exchange on the same terms. Start on the returns page.

Custom-printed items are the exception everywhere, because a piece printed with your design cannot be resold. The honest version of that policy still covers the seller's own mistakes: damaged, faulty or printed differently from the approved preview.

How to avoid fake products

  • A famous brand at a fraction of its price is a copy. There is no other explanation.
  • Buy branded goods from the brand's own site or its official marketplace store, not from a page that sells forty brands.
  • For local brands, the risk is different: not fakes, but supplier photos of garments the seller never held. Real photos and a visitable address rule that out.
09

Popular payment methods

Cash on delivery first. Mobile wallets (bKash, Nagad, Rocket) are used mostly to pay a delivery charge in advance or to settle with a seller you already trust. Cards and internet banking are growing but still a small share. A store that never asks for card details on its own site, and lets you pay at the door, is following the safest pattern for you.

10

Buying men's clothing online

Men's fashion online in Bangladesh has moved from generic tees to fit-specific streetwear: oversized and drop-shoulder t-shirts, polos, casual and old-money shirts, semi-baggy jeans and trousers. What to look for, how the fits differ and how to build a small wardrobe that works together is covered in men's fashion in Bangladesh and in our blog guide to buying quality men's clothing online.

11

Women's clothing, electronics and grocery

Women's fashion is the larger half of online apparel and is sold heavily through Facebook pages and boutique sites; the same trust checks apply, with extra attention to size charts, since sizing is even less standard. Electronics are safest from the brand's official store or a marketplace seller with a long history, with the warranty card checked at the door before paying. Grocery is a specialist game with cold-chain delivery; stick to the established players in your city.

12

Delivery times and charges

For a well-run seller, inside Dhaka City is 1 to 2 days and the rest of the country 2 to 4 days. Courier charges are zoned. Menlab passes them on at cost: ৳60 in Dhaka City, ৳100 in the Dhaka sub-urban belt and ৳130 elsewhere for a standard order, free over ৳3,000, with the full table on the shipping page. A good address (house number, road, a landmark) and answering the courier's call are what actually decide whether a parcel arrives on day one.

Frequently asked questions

Is online shopping safe in Bangladesh?

Yes, if you pay at the door and buy from stores that show real photos, a real address and a written return policy. Cash on delivery means no money moves until the product is in your hand.

Which is better, Daraz or a brand's own website?

Marketplaces give choice and buyer protection; brand websites give consistent product, direct support and clearer policies. For clothing you plan to wear often, the brand's site usually gives better information on fit and fabric.

How do I know a t-shirt will fit when I buy online?

Measure a t-shirt you already like across the chest and top to bottom, and match those numbers to the product's own size chart. Check whether the fit is regular or oversized. Menlab's assistant can suggest a size from your height and weight.

What if the product is not what I ordered?

Check the parcel before paying the courier; you can refuse it. If you notice afterwards, use the store's return process within its window. Menlab's is 7 days from delivery with courier pickup.
